Do you have dry mouth?
Did you know that medications are the number one cause of dry mouth and can impact your oral health? Dry mouth can lead to many ongoing problems such as bad breath, increased cavities, increased plaque, gum disease, cracked lips and even difficulty swallowing. There are many different options to help with these conditions. To start, it is always recommended to drink plenty of water throughout the day to help stimulate saliva flow. There is an oral mouth rinse, gel, gum and spray called Biotene that has a protein-enzyme system to help with saliva stimulation. These products can be found in the oral care section at major retailers such as CVS and Walgreens. In addition, there is a prescription strength toothpaste called PreviDent for dry mouth by Colgate that we recommend to our patients, this has fluoride to help rebuild your enamel strength and reduce your risk of cavities. So, if you are experiencing any signs of dry mouth, bring it to your dentist or hygienist attention at your next appointment, we can help!
